What is EEO-1 Reporting in 2020?
The EEO-1 (Equal Employment Opportunity) report is actually a survey of employers, including federal contractors, that collect employment data relating to ethnicity, gender, and race. Specifically, the EEO-1 report collects data related to:
- Ethnicity data (Hispanic or Latino/Non-Hispanic or Latino)
- Gender Information
- Race Information
Since 1966, the federal government has collected data on the employment of women and minorities. This year, that federally-mandated report is due on March 31.
Who needs to comply with EEO-1 reporting?
EEO-1 compliance and reporting in 2020 is an obligation under federal law for three kinds of companies.
1. All Private Employers with over 100 Employees
If you are a private employer with 100 or more employees you must file the EEO-1 survey by March 31, 2020. Excluded from this federal mandate are "state and local governments, public primary and secondary school systems, institutions of higher education, American Indian or Alaska Native tribes and tax-exempt private membership clubs other than labor organizations."
2. Private Companies with less than 100 Employees
If you are a private company with less than 100 employees but are owned by or in partnership with a company that has 100 employees or more, you must complete the EEO-1 by March 31, 2020. Such relationships between companies are defined by central control of personnel policies and labor relations. If you share human resources policies with such a company, you must complete the EEO-1 for each location that has employees within the company.
3. Federal Contractors
Federal contractors with 50 or more employees, and/or contracts for $50,000 of work from the federal government must complete the EEO-1 by March 31, 2020. This includes businesses that serve as a depository for federal funds in any amount and financial institutions that are issuing and paying agents for U.S. Savings Bonds and Savings Notes.
